This is our first TMD report for the newly launched Sale and Ashton Village Handbook and if future visits turn out to be as enjoyable as this one then we will be very happy.

The restaurant is within easy walking distance of Brooklands Metrolink station so we travelled there on the tram.

Chez Nous has been run by Ken and Linda for the last 25 years and is a bit of a legend in its own lunchtime. It only opens Friday lunchtime and Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

There is a full menu newly created each week around the availability of fresh produce and on top of this there is also a daily ’specials’ board. This is supported by a comprehensive wine list.

We chose a deliciously fruity cabernet sauvignon from the wine list and a jug of iced water.

As a starter I had fried scallops and my companion chose fresh asparagus mornay. Both were tender and tasty.

For the main course I had a sirloin steak diane served with a red wine sauce. It was presented rare as ordered and tasted sweet and succulent. My companion ordered monkfish, pan fried with scallops and king prawns in a provencale sauce. Lovely, spicy flavours leapt from the fish that had been in the pan for just the right amount of time.

Even though I was running at capacity I found it difficult to resist the warm chocolate fudge cake with fresh cream and ice cream. My less glutinous companion had fresh strawberries and cream. We finished with coffee whilst I contemplated, having consumed far too much food, the joys of staggering back to the Metrolink.

The bill came to £65, which was great value for a splendid meal.

Chez Nous had a pleasant buzz about it and all other diners seemed to be enjoying themselves. The staff were helpful and friendly.

Will we return?

Oh yes, this was a lovely way to spend the evening.

Our Verdict
