Cruise Holidays, which were once the preserve of the rich and famous. They are now so much more affordable, and represent great value due to the excellent standards of dining and service on board.

Several new cruise ships have been launched in the last few years with many aimed towards the family market. There is now something for everyone, ranging from the more traditional smaller ships to large fun ships with onboard cinemas, bowling alleys and even ice rinks! The new ships are less formal than the traditional ships.

A popular cruising misconception is that you will be ‘stuck on a ship for a week’, and nothing could be further from the truth. Most ships visit a port during the day, then move on to the next port of call overnight.

However one of my favourite itineraries is the Transatlantic Crossing, which involves between six and eight days at sea. There is always so much happening on the ship that the days pass very quickly and as you are not under pressure to get off and explore, it is very relaxing.

Several cruise ships now leave directly from UK ports and several more are joining them in 2010. Being able to board your cruise ship in the UK means no hassle at airports and no restriction on the weight of luggage you can take. This is a definite plus where most women are concerned.

Many people only think of the Caribbean when they consider a cruise, but there are very few areas of the world where you cannot take a cruise. It is a great way to visit and explore far flung destinations without constantly packing and unpacking and checking in and out of hotels.
